Never intended to be shown as a motion picture, 'Fred Ott's Sneeze' was actually a series of photographs taken to accompany an article in Harper's Weekly. The end result is a five-second-long film that has gone down in history as the earliest surviving film with a copyright AND the shortest film in the National Film Registry. Also featured is a very early example of the close-up.
